Commercial Detergent Soap vs Handmade Milk Soap

What’s the difference in handmade milk soaps vs detergent commercial soap bars??

The two biggest differences are the glycerin in handmade soaps and the lack of detergents.

Glycerin is naturally produced during saponification. It’s a humectant which means it draws moisture from the air to your skin so it leaves your skin soft and moisturized. Commercial soaps remove the glycerin and sell it separately usually in moisturizers.

Detergents are synthetic often petroleum based cleansers where Brown Cow Soap soap is simply milk, oils and butters saponified with lye. Detergents strip your skin, leaving it dry whereas milk soap cleans without stripping.

Another issue with detergent based soaps is that the preservatives required to keep these acidic soaps from growing bacteria are toxic and drying. Brown Cow Soap is naturally preservative free!

If you are new to REAL soap...not those powdered milk soaps, then you are in for a huge treat because Brown Cow Soap will leave your skin feeling completely different than commercial soaps. That beautiful whole Jersey milk and cream and all the extra skin loving oils butters I use in every batch leave your skin wonderfully moisturized.
